From what I hear, an interesting place to see…

A cruise vacation is a great thing, everything you need at your fingertips, seeing a new country every day… but it’s also a captive audience of germs carefully carried on-board from all over the world and sure enough, by the time we hit Nicaragua I was sick. I knew it was going to happen too, as one evening after dinner I watched a fellow guest stop four times on the way back to her room to sneeze on the wall. ON THE WALL! (more…)

Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala

The middle of nowhere, Guatemala

Buying local and lots of it.

When our ship tied up in Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, it was immediately obvious that we were docked in the middle of nowhere.The ship was surrounded by thick, thick jungle with a shipping yard in the distance to the north and what looked to be a prison just to the south of us. Note the vulture flying down in front of the ‘prision’. I never did establish what it was, but there were a few too many barbed-wire fences and high powered lights to be a happy place. (more…)
